UnicornOps is a startup, that much is clear from the lack of website and even the company formation not being finished yet.One of the hardest things about this stage is wanting to appear bigger than things really are. This happens in most businesses that are growing as you want to get bigger and bigger clients but at this point this is just me. Only one person.
It's a bit strange writing copy for the website and writing in the third person. It's like I'm pretending to be a big company when I'm not. I'm just a person with an idea and a dream. I'm not sure if I should be writing in the first person or the third person. It's strange but a necessary step.
I do already have some contracts signed but these are for me doing work and not yet for other people. I am hoping to get to that stage early next year but it is something I want to be very careful with. I want to make sure UnicornOps lives up to its name and that we have unicorns working for us that can provide exceptional service to our clients.
Waiting has to be the second hardest part of this stage. Waiting on the company formation, it's a big blocking step. This means waiting on the bank account and being able to sign some partnerships. I'm hoping that this will be done in the next few days but things never move quickly here in Ireland.
One of the things I have learned in the many companies I have worked as a part of is understand well what it is that you do. A business cannot do everything and the most successful ones do one thing and do it well. UnicornOps knows what it does well and what it doesn't. We are not a recruitment company, we are not a vendor of slideware and we are not a cloud provider. We are a company that helps other companies automate their technology and helps bring their people along the journey of change that this brings.
There I go again with the we... I need to get used to this. I am a company now. I am UnicornOps. I am the CEO and the CTO and the CMO and the CFO. I am everything. I am the company. I am the unicorn. I am the dream. I am the future. I am UnicornOps, for now.
